2009 Macon County AYP Summary

As required under the federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) legislation, Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) results for the North Carolina Public Schools in Reading and Mathematics have been released for the 2008-09 academic year.  Macon County Schools had 8 schools out of 12, or 66.7% to make AYP in both Reading and Math.

Cartoogechaye Elementary School, Cowee Elementary School, Cullasaja Elementary School, East Franklin Elementary School, Highlands School, Iotla Elementary School, Macon Early College, and South Macon Elementary School successfully met 100% of all academic targets in Reading and Math within all student subgroups.

All students, staff, administrators and other personnel within the Macon County School System have worked diligently this year to successfully meet all of the requirements set forth under federal and state accountability models.  While we continue to address the areas of opportunities for improvement throughout Macon County, we also celebrate numerous successes as we strive to become a high performing school system.

These results are preliminary pending State Board approval on August 6, 2009.
