Welcome to the East Franklin Elementary School Website

East Franklin Elementary School is very proud of its past and excited about the future. Renovations to the existing building were completed in August of 2008. These renovations included: converting the gym into three second grade classrooms, new heating and cooling systems, lower ceilings, tile floors, and the installation of activ boards in every classroom.

Construction of a new addition began July 2008 and was completed by September 2009. The addition included a new gym with a stage, three kindergarten classrooms with activ boards and a workroom.

Thank you for visiting our site. At East Franklin Elementary School we have pride in our performance.

       History

East Franklin Elementary School was built during 1951 and 1952, consolidating four small community schools.  The building originally had ten classrooms, a lunchroom, auditorium and administrative office space.  In 1956, four more classrooms were added to the East end of the building.  This addition provided a library and expanded the dining space.  In 1969, ten new classrooms and a new Media Center were added to the West end of the original building.  This addition resulted from the consolidation of East Franklin Elementary School and Franklin Elementary School.

A bond referemdum in 1981 resulted in major renovations costing approximately one half million dollars.  Renovations happened again in 2001.  The construction was completed in January 2002.

Renovation to the existing building began in November 2007.  The renovation plan involved remodeling all classrooms and work areas within the existing building.  The office area received only cosmetic improvements.  The gym was converted into three new classrooms.  All work was completed by August 2008 still leaving 9 portable classrooms behind the school.

Construction of a new addition began July 2008 and completed September 2009.  The new addition included a new gym with a stage, three kindergarten classrooms with activ boards and a workroom. No more portable classrooms!

We are currently developing a new playground area and other outside resources.

Presently, East Franklin Elementary School serves Kindergarten through Fifth grades with an enrollment of 450 students.  We were a School of Distinction from 1998-2005.  There are thirty three certified teachers, fourteen teacher assistants, one secreatry, one bookkeeper, one data manager, six cafeteria staff, three bus drivers and three custodians assigned to our school.

We are proud of our diverse school where everyone is a team player.  East Franklin Elementary is a place where everyone is an unique individual with high self expectations.

      Mission Statement

     Our Beliefs

  • Every child can learn and deserves an appropriate educational challenge from caring, dedicated and flexible teachers.
  • Learning is most effective when it addresses the social, emotional and physical development of each child.
  • Children learn best in a safe, supportive, stimulating enviroment where everyone is treated with respect.
  • It is essential to model the behaviors and attitudes children are to learn and use.
  • An effective education provides students with the basic social and critical thinking skills they need to be lifelong learners.
  • Optimum learning occurs when the community, family, teachers and students work together.

    Curriculum

Our curriculum is based on the North Carolina Standard Course of Study.  This curriculum reflects the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to function effectively in an industrial age.  Opportunities are provided for students to think, reason, explore and experience success in math, reading and writing across the disciplines.  Higher-level questions are used in all areas to help give our students what they need to perform on tests and future careers.  Our students are assessed formally and informally.  K-2 students are assessed using portfolios.  Students in third grade are administered math and reading pretests within the first three weeks of school.  These scores provide a base line for growth analysis.  The end-of-grade test (3rd.-5th. grades) measures achievement of curricula objectives described in the N.C. Standard Course of Study.  Also, students in fourth grade have a writing assessment to measure written expression.
