 Mission Statement

Physical Education Association
To promote and support North Carolina physical education through advocacy, professional development, and education to develop physically educated individuals and support a physically active North Carolina.

Macon County Schools Physical Education
The Physical Education programs in the Macon County Elementary Schools are committed to providing a positive, safe, enjoyable learning environment in which all students will reach their potential in the affective, cognitive and psychomotor domains.

We strive to provide a wide variety of instructional methods and activities to address diverse learning styles, interests and abilities of our students. Teachers communicate high expectations for students in all that they do. Our programs are aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study as well as the NASPE National Standards for Physical Education. All schools follow a health and physical education pacing guide in order to ensure uniformity in our instructional programs.

Our ultimate goal is to encourage and motivate all students to be physically active people at school, in the community, at home and throughout their lives as well as to develop the skills to be healthy and successful in the 21st century.

Physical Education Program Grant
FY 2009 Grant Award Recipients

The purpose of the Carol M. White Physical Education Program is to provide funds to local educational agencies and community-based organizations (including faith-based organizations) to initiate, expand, and improve physical education programs (including after school programs) for students in one or more grades from kindergarten through 12 in order to make progress toward meeting State standards for physical education by providing funds for equipment, support, and the training and education of teachers and staff. In order to receive funding, each applicant must design and implement a program that clearly aligns to state standards for physical education and provides for one or more of the following elements:

  • Fitness education and assessment to help students understand, improve or maintain physical well-being;
  • Instruction in motor skills and physical activities designed to enhance the physical, mental, or social or emotional development;
  • Development of, and instruction in, cognitive concepts about motor skills and physical fitness that support healthy lifestyles;
  • Opportunities to develop positive social and cooperative skills through physical activity participation;
  • Instruction in healthy eating habits and good nutrition; and
  • Opportunities for professional development for physical education teachers to stay abreast of current research, issues, and trends in physical education.
