WELCOME:
Hello Parents and Students! My name is Victoria Mahler and I will be teaching 8th grade English this year. I am really looking forward to working with all of you. We are going to have an amazing year with a lot of fun and interesting things planned.
BACKGROUND:
I have a B.A.E. in Elementary Education with an ESOL Endorsement from Florida Atlantic University and a MAED in English Education from East Carolina University. I come from a family of educators. My oldest sister is on her 32nd year teaching 5th grade in south Florida, my niece is a 2nd grade teacher in Albany, New York, and I am entering my 20th year. I started teaching in the private sector and somehow didn't feel challenged enough and switched to an inner-city IB (International Baccalaureate)Magnet school. There I had all the challenge I needed! I will say this; It was the greatest learning experience I ever had. Not only were my students diverse in culture and socioeconomic status, but in ability as well. It has prepared me for the challenges that we all face (parents, teachers, and students). After leaving south Florida to provide a better environment for my daughter, I taught in Buncombe County for two years before moving to Franklin. I taught one year in Jackson County when a position became available at Macon Middle School. I finally feel I am home!
TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:
I feel that every child can learn. They don't all learn the same way or at the same time, but they all can learn. It is my job to make the material as interesting as I can to keep all of my students engaged and eager to learn. I do this in several ways: Healthy competitions, group discussions, cooperative grouping, hands-on activities, etc. I feel that communication is the key to success. I encourage my students and my parents to contact me any time. I try to create an environment that is conducive to learning and growing. Each child has unique gifts and they will get to explore them this year.
WE ARE GOING TO HAVE A SUCCESSFUL YEAR!
