Hello 7th and 8th grade parents and students of this up-coming 2011/ 2012 year. Last year I taught high-school math here at Union. This year I will be teaching 7th and 8th grade math. Looking forward to a productive year.
February 8th Workshop Progress and Projects
Our workshop here at Union is coming along slowly. One 8th grade group has dug a trench and ran conduit and electric cable from an existing building to our workshop. We have covered the trench and will plant grass seed soon. We have built a chicken house for meat chickens and have already raised 20. We will be raising more soon. We have built a sloping ramp to the front door of our workshop out of white oak boards from a sawmill. We plan to build a lean-to area off the side of the building for keeping projects out of the rain. I am not sure if we will shingle the roof or use tin? We will be starting some benches and small tables soon. We will also be wiring the building with the help of a liscenced electrician. We built coat racks for Christmas out of mountain laurel, walnut, cherry and maple wood. Parents feel free to donate any building type materials. I will have a camera soon to take pictures of students working and projects.
February 13th More Chickens on the way!!
We will have 60 male meat chickens next week. This week we will build another house for them-now we will have two 4x8 chicken houses. These will be ready to butcher and freeze in 6 weeks. We also have two breeds of layers ordered-25 alltogether. Plus in March we will be rotovating the garden area and planting. Mrs. Jenkins will be running the greenhouse and Mr. Jackson will run the garden.
