Students in Mr. Eric Jackson’s Science classes have been learning about real-world applications of pH, light wavelengths, and biological processes through a hydroponics grow tower. The tower is on loan through The Science House equipment lending program. This program is made possible through NC State University which required Mr. Jackson to attend a day of professional development to become eligible to check out materials.
Students have been monitoring the tower to make sure the pH is the correct level for growing greens such as spinach, kale, and chard. Using special grow lights that provide the most efficient wavelength of energy for the growing plants, they hope to have a crop in the next couple of weeks!
We have several schools that are interested in the grow towers which allow indoor growing stations that can be used throughout the school year. If you or someone you know would like to sponsor a school grow tower, please contact Jennifer Love at email@example.com.
