Migration Day

September 26-30, 2016STEM Migration Day – All 6th grade students from Mountain View Intermediate School will learn about citizen science and biomimicry while helping with bird banding with a M.A.P.S. scientists and Monarch tagging through “Monarch Watch”.

Discovery Education Leadership Forum

October 5, 2016STEM and Project Based Learning Training by Discovery Education for school administrators and community leaders.

October 6, 2016 – STEM Coordinator Jennifer Love and Smoky Mountain STEM Collaborative (SMSC) PI Matthew Cass will be presenting at the CREW workshop for teachers in western North Carolina.  The presentation will focus on opportunities available for teachers and students through the SMSC NASA grant and GLOBE research projects.

Spooky STEM

STEM Spooky Sounds Engineering after school programs

October 25 – Mountain View Intermediate, October 26 – Highlands School,

October 27 – Macon Middle School

Students will engineer sound makers and then use them to create their own GarageBand soundtrack.  Students will need to bring their own devices in order to record their final soundtrack.
